Well, the source I lifted it from got it wrong, but that’s no excuse.

There’s always one small but glaring error in every novel, so maybe this is the one for The Dragons of Babel. In The Iron Dragon’s Daughter, it was assuming that Tetigistu (lifted from “Acu tetigistu!” meaning “You have touched it with a needle!”) meant Needle, when actually it was Acu that meant that. Which is obvious, once you think about ACUte angles. The late Joe Mayhew suggested that in Faerie, where so much is a mirror distortion of our world, the words had swapped meaning. And for the same of the novel, I’m willing to pretend so. But, honestly, it was a goof.

My thanks for pointing that out, incidentally. It deepens my appreciation of the (rather difficult) character.

Also, a note: I was skimming the list, and I wondered if you meant to spell “vechernayaya” with that extra “ya” at the end. I speak Russian, so I thought I would say something about that. I know that’s how it is often spelled in English but that implies that the syllables break up like so: ve-cher-na-ya-ya, though the Russian feminine adjective “of the evening” is pronounced ve-cher-nya-ya or perhaps ve-cher-nia-ya. It’s more of a slidy N that flows into the “y” sound, no vowels in between. It’s a pretty minor quibble, and of course you might be using a non-Russian version of the word.

——I didnt know this writer, so while I was translating, I was actually thinking you may made a mistake of misspelling the name. You probably referred to Wu Yan,who is a noted sci-fi writer in China, I thought.
Now I see the picture….god, lucky me, i didnt translate it into “Wu Yan”
